NHS Entitlement

The following people are entitled to an NHS eye test:

Age Related

Those who are either:

  • Under 16
  • Aged 16, 17 or 18 and still in full time education
  • Over 60

Benefit Related

Those in receipt of either:

  • Income Support
  • Child Tax Credits
  • Working Tax Credits
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • An up-to-date HC2 form
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit (but meet the criteria)

Medical Related

Those who are:

  • Diagnosed with Diabetes
  • Diagnosed with Glaucoma
  • Have a direct family history of Glaucoma and who are over the age of 40
  • Considered to be at risk of glaucoma by an ophthalmologist

Optical related

Those who are either:

  • Registered partially sighted or blind with a Local Authority
  • Have a “complex” prescription (over +/-10.00)

Some benefits may also entitle you to an NHS Optical Voucher which will cover the cost of optical lenses or contact lenses prescribed by the optician.
